Evergood Associates are looking for an Experienced Area Social Worker | CIN/CP and LAC, based in Kent
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
- To safeguard vulnerable children and support them to achieve their full potential, living within their family if safe to do so.
- To provide a high quality and effective professional casework service, taking responsibility for working and managing a caseload within a framework of appropriate supervision, dependent upon the complexities of these cases and the social worker’s experience.
- To comply with legislation, statutory guidance and local policies and procedures.
KEY CORPORATE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To work with colleagues to achieve service plan objectives/targets.
- To participate in one to one Performance Development Reviews and contribute to the identification of own and team development needs.
- To actively promote the Council's Fair Access, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and observe the standard of conduct which prevents discrimination taking place.
- To ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, the Council's Health and Safety Policy and all locally agreed safe methods of work.
- To fully understand and be aware of the commitment to Section 17 of the duty of Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to prevent crime and disorder.
- At the discretion of the Head of Service, such other activities as may from time to time may be agreed consistent with the nature of the job described above.
KEY SERVICE RELATED ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To adhere to and uphold the codes of conduct set out by Medway Council, the Professional Capabilities Framework and the HCPC.
- To ensure that all vulnerable children in need and children in care on their caseload receive a service that reflects the Department’s commitment to safeguarding and putting the needs of individual children first.
- To model good practice that reflects a value based approach to working with children and their families and is child-centred.
- To work in partnership with service users, to undertake focused, analytical assessments, plans and reviews that have clear objectives and outcome measures.
- To work directly with children and young people to establish their wishes and feelings, using a variety of techniques, as required.
- To work within accepted standards of customer care and to provide a respectful and sensitive service at all times.
- To maintain accurate and up to date records in line with Data Protection legislation and use the Children’s Recording System to promote effective case management.
- To prepare reports for meetings, i.e. Child Protection Conferences, strategy meetings, Looked After Children Reviews, Children in Need meetings, and court proceedings as necessary, to the required standard and within the set timescales.
- To contribute to the progression of the relevant performance plans and targets.
- To monitor use of resources to promote maximum results.
- To keep up to date with research findings, theoretical models and innovative practice within the social work field.
- To identify training and development needs and maintain requirements for professional registration.
- To be available for supervision, as required and to prepare for supervisory sessions, as required by the Practice Manager.
- To be competent in all areas of the Professional Capabilities framework for Social Workers.
- At the discretion of the Manager such other activities as may from time to time be required to ensure the needs of the service are met
2. PERSON SPECIFICATION
- • A recognised professional Social Work Qualification – eg DipSW, CQSW or equivalent (15% weighting) • A certificate in the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (only applies to social workers who qualified from September 2012 onwards) (10% weighting) • HCPC Registration (5% weighting) • Current Enhanced (DBS) • Full Driving License (5% weighting)
- Demonstrable experience of working with children and families within statutory, independent or third sector (20% weighting)
- Demonstrable experience of undertaking direct work with children and young people, using a range of evidence based models (15% weighting)
- Demonstrable knowledge required to recognise and evaluate risk to children and assess measures to reduce that risk
- Demonstrable knowledge of legislation and statutory guidance relevant to working in children’s services (15% weighting)
- Demonstrable knowledge of key child care and child protection national policy development and research
- Demonstrable knowledge of relevant theoretical frameworks and practice models (15% weighting)
- Demonstrable understanding of the Council’s vision and priorities and how this post contributes to their achievement
- Ability to demonstrate awareness of legislation relating to Data Protection and Freedom of Information
- Ability to use advanced theoretical/practical/procedural/organisational /policy knowledge across a specialist area
- Demonstrates well-developed skills in collecting and analysing information, assessing children and families’ needs and creating imaginative responses and interventions.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply and effectively use theoretical frameworks and evidence based practice to own work to ensure positive outcomes for children and young people
- Ability to carry out tasks which impact on the well being of people, including assessing needs, implementing care/welfare, implementing regulations, providing guidance on internal procedures and interpreting policies and procedures to meet specific circumstances or problems.
