Earlier this year our Compliance Manager Emily Cook decided to put another tick on her bucket list. That rather large tick now sits nicely next to ‘Running the London Marathon.’ We spoke to Emily to learn a bit more about the experience, raising money for charity and what advice she would give to anyone else thinking of running a marathon. “In April 2017 I ticked something off my bucket list; and ran, walked and sobbed my way through the London Marathon. Whilst I had always wanted to tackle a marathon, for my own sense of achievement my main motivation was to raise money for Save the Children. I have been personally supporting Save the Children since 2006, so I ran (excuse the pun) at the opportunity to take part as a Save the Children representative. The marathon was the hardest thing I have ever been through - all I know is the wall is a very real thing, and you know when it hits – as evidenced by me crying my way through the last six miles. The marathon is also one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I managed to raise just below £1,465 for my charity and learnt so much about myself along the way! I would now recommend that anybody who wants to take on the challenge of a marathon goes for it!!! I am not a natural runner and at the start of my training running for 20 minutes without stopping was a challenge! Needless to say, I didn’t beat any records, but they don’t put your time on your medal! The medal will always serve of a reminder to me what I can achieve if I put my mind to it! I am so proud of having run the marathon and the last step over the finish line will always be an amazing memory for me! I am even more proud of having raised money for such an incredible cause.” We are all so proud of you, Emily. Well done. For more information about our team, click here.
